Oh, here we are.
Unless we change the direction in which we are headed, we might end up where we are going.
- Chinese proverb
In each period of history we must shed old ways, like a snake that outgrows its own skin. 500 years ago we had to accept the fact that the universe does not revolve around Earth, remember? 😬 With some resistance, we did. Similarly, today we must accept the fact that animal agriculture is the single biggest contributor to climate change. 🐄
Good news is that we don’t have to stop eating meat in order to avert biosphere collapse. 🎉 We just need to source it from where it originally comes - plants. 🌿 Yup, all meat is powered by plants. 😏 In our quest for nutrients & feeding a growing population, plants are 97% more effective. And as it seems, also much healthier!
Animal agriculture takes up 83% of all agricultural land on Earth, despite supplying only 18% of humanity’s food supply.
Maybe, just maybe we could work on our cow to human ratio. Earth can only take so many
methane burps.
For us, this is not about vegans versus carnivores. We don’t jive with that divisive shit. 3 billion new people will be born in the next 30 years and with our current agricultural system, we will not be able to nourish such a huge population. We are already way over the capacity Earth can bear.
But in respect to the traditions of meat, there is a middle way. We can turn to the OG of meats - plants. We heard a rumor, that they actually contain proteins. But that can be our little secret. Now let’s finish this little ol’ page of with a little quote by the living legend Wendell Berry:
We have lived our lives by the assumption that what was good for us would be good for the world. We have been wrong. We must change our lives so that it will be possible to live by the contrary assumption: what is good for the world will be good for us.
